Thanksgiving is one of the most lovely time of the year, and it is also a time to feast up with your loved ones.  It is easy to forget the nutrition side of the meal when you are stressed over preparation of the Thanksgiving meal.  However, we have a few health and tasty recipes for everyone to enjoy.

The traditional pumpkin pie is many people’s favorite, but there can also be too much fat and sugar.  By eliminates the cream, one can cut down the fat and calorie per serving. Mashed potatoes is one of our comfort food, but it can be fattening.  An healthy spin to this classic is to use cauliflower instead of potato, which can still achieve the same fluffy and creamy feel as potatoes. Finally, gravy is great tasting, but it can also be very unhealthy. Many gravy contains a lot of cream, you can substitute the cream with a stock made from turkey and vegetables for a flavorful taste as well.

Meal preparation can be very stressful, even when it is not for the Thanksgiving feast.  Our caregivers here at A-1 Home Care in Encino has the skills and experience to assist seniors with meal preparation and more.
