Tips to Stay Safe this Summer

a-1 home care

Summer is a beautiful time of the year, but it can also be a dangerous time for those who are more vulnerable like children and the elderly.  With temperatures reaching triple digits on many summer days, prevention of heat exhaustion and heat strokes must be top priority for seniors.  Staying hydrated is key, and it is more than just drinking water because what we eat and drink also affects our state of hydration.

For instance, preparing snacks such as carrots, celery, watermelon, cantaloupe and other fruits and vegetables is a great way to stay hydrated because these food are full of water and are very nutritious.  On the other hand, if you are someone who needs coffee each morning to survive the day, try limiting the caffeine intake because caffeine speeds up dehydration.  Finally, always try to avoid peak sun hours where it is hottest, wear sun protection when outdoor, and be outfitted with light-colored and loose clothing.

Summer should be a time to enjoy life, so don’t let the heat ruin the beautiful weather and take precautions to stay safe and hydrated this time of the year!
